Craftybegonia: The Art of Crafts and the Crafts in Art

Best Blog Tips

There are no set rules in mixed media, that is why it is so great for the creative flow. I love to mix crafts with art and art with crafts. You can too. Do you crochet? You can use some of your crochet motifs as stamps and also as stencils. Look at this experiment I did with a little motif I crocheted.

Crochet Motif For Stencil or Stamp

Materials-

Baby yarn

F crochet hook

Magic ring.

Work 11 dc with a ch 1 in between into magic ring. Fasten off, weave in tails.

Apply watered white glue on one side to make the acrylic yarn less absorbent (I do not use wool.) Let dry.

Repeat the process on the other side. Apply two layers of white Gesso on the top side and let dry. Repeat on the back. You will have a usable stencil or stamp that is all yours.

I used this motif as a stencil to produce this mixed media page for a painty page to be used later for a collage.

Step 1- Gesso page (I actually used a notepad page)

Step 2- Using fluid acrylic paints in shades of purple, pink and peach, create a background (you can use a natural sponge, for example.)

Step 3- Using your little stencil and glittery gel pens, draw the circles.

Step 4- Add other layers as you wish.

Here's where mine went.

Have fun!
